Filming #1

Image
This week our group began to film. In order to ensure a good place where our two main characters would "accidentally" bump into each other for the beginning scene, we thought of places in the school with two meeting hallways. Alas, my group and I decided to go down to the U.S history hallway since there was a good interception that would allow for unique camera angles. Once we adjusted the lighting on the camera we used a red sidelining against the wall for optimal shots.  This is me taking a picture of the hallway where we will introduce our main character, Luca, that would represent the "shy guy" of the film. The spectacular part about this camera positioning is that it captures both ends of the halls so it would create a good form of dramatic irony needed for this comedy film as the "popular kid" and the "shy guy" bumps into each other causing a scene.  In this area, we also hope to film the entrance of the detention room going in/inside Mr. C...

Preparing to Film

I will be the narrator/director that guides this film. For the actors Jovani will be portrayed as the popular kid who everyone likes, Luca as the loner who doesn't have any friends, and Mr. Chambers as the teacher who picks on the loner and eventually the cool kid. For costumes Jovani will come in wearing clean fitted clothes, and Luca will wear a black hoodie with the hood over his head and some other beat up clothes. For now we will most likely not have props. This will take place in school in Mr. Chambers room, the hallways, and maybe in another classroom but we are still discussing it. The dates and times will most likely be throughout the school year. We were planning on writing a vague script and also coming up with stuff as we go that way it seems more natural. The film equipment will be a phone.

Initial Storyboard

During this storyboard planning our group had a broad amount of ideas, but in order to narrow down our choices, we decided to start with choosing a genre. Luca and Jovani initially decided to do a horror gene but then switched to a comedy genre in order to be more homogenous with their ideas. From there we decided our play in the creation of this film with me being set on a cameraman/narrator/director while Luca plays the "shy guy" and Jovani the "popular kid" in the film. Our backbone structure of this storyboard and film is the idea that this project is going to be a "coming of age" film and the idea of having a "shy guy" and "popular kid" complement each other since these two characters are the opposing forces who are going to make an alliance in order to symbolize that idea. However, we would need to introduce a third-party opposing force which is the "detention teacher" in order to provoke this alliance and get the ball ...

Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research

For this weeks blog we are going to observe the following 9 different movie opener clips from past AICE Media students in Florida. Annotations will be made and I will be brainstorming ideas from these clips that could contribute to my film opener. 1. Rise      Some observations:     - I enjoy the use of close up shots when using equipment such as the tying the shoes, shooting the ball into the net, and especially at the last scene where there are two parties facing each other the the close up highlights the fierceness of the characters emotions. This also sets up a constructive meaning behind the clip that ties well with the title of "Rise." This film gives the audience a emotion of intensity and ends in a sorta cliff hanger with these two characters having a stare-off. I appreciate the use of the music tuning in when the soccer player has his headphones on, but also tunes out when this character is not the focus of the camera.  I would defin...

Semester Exam- Film Analyses of Black Mirror (season 3, episode 4, San Junipero)

“San Junipero” is part of a British science-fiction TV series named Black Mirror which has received Emmy Awards in 2017 in the categories of Outstanding TV Movie and Outstanding Writing. Moreover, “San Junipero” has successfully become one of the show’s most popular episodes among fans. The episode opens to reveal an establishing shot of the beachside town. San Junipero is basically a small town with several bars and animated areas giving the viewer the sense of a “party town” because most activities in the town takes place at Tucker’s, which is a bar where Yorkie first meets Kelly. This hints at the thought that Tucker’s is the heart of the town and is where the most action takes place, which leads on the audience as to what may occur as we see our protagonist Yorkie go into the bar. Before the two protagonists of the episode meet there is a two-shot showing Kelly and her friend entering the bar which influences the curious Yorker to enter as well. In general, the setting of San Junip...

Mise-En-Scene Analysis: Stanger Things

I decided to do a Mise-En-Scene  analysis  on the show Stanger Things on Episode 1: “The Vanishing  of  Will By ers.”  This was primarily due to the  straightforward depiction of the famous 1980s era and the  use  of  costumes, sets, lighting, and blocking  in  which  these elements  intertwine to create  a phenom enal  show.  Moreover, this show was chosen because it defies a great sense of mystery  and brings a  nostalgic  element.    In the beginning ,  the show  presents the  timeline of the 1980 era  by showing the actual date and place of November 6, 1983, Hawkins, Indiana .  Upon the first scene, the lights are flickering  at low-key  which alludes  that something bad is about to happen. The darkness overtakes the light showing  mystery, however , the light is bright enough to help the audience  sense who the character is and w...
